AAP Punjab Government Orders Arrest of Its Own Minister, Reinforces Anti-Corruption Stance

In a bold move underscoring its commitment to accountability, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has ordered the arrest of its own minister, Laljit Bhullar, following serious allegations of misconduct. This action, announced on Monday, sets a clear benchmark for transparency and reinforces the party's zero-tolerance policy against corruption, as stated by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal in a press statement.

Kejriwal Lauds Decisive Step, Contrasts with BJP's Approach

Arvind Kejriwal praised the Punjab government's "decisive step," emphasizing that when it comes to justice, the AAP does not hesitate to act even against its own members. He highlighted this by contrasting it with the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) handling of similar situations. Kejriwal cited the recent suicide case of an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in Haryana, where serious allegations were made against several individuals, but the BJP-led government and party allegedly shielded the accused.

In a post on social media platform X, Kejriwal elaborated: "Recently, serious allegations were made against a minister in the AAP government in Punjab. Our government, without any delay or bias, took immediate action against that minister, not only removing him from his post but also ensuring his arrest."

Immediate Action Taken Against Minister Bhullar

The Punjab government's swift response involved not only the removal of Laljit Bhullar from his ministerial position but also his subsequent arrest, demonstrating a firm stance against any form of corruption within its ranks. This move is seen as a significant step in upholding ethical governance and public trust.

Kejriwal further added in his statement: "Some time ago, an ADGP in Haryana died by suicide. Serious allegations were made against several individuals, but the entire party and the government there came out in support of the accused. This is the difference between the AAP and the BJP. When it comes to justice, the AAP does not hesitate to take action even against a minister in its own government, whereas the BJP sacrifices justice to protect its own."

Reinforcing Accountability and Political Integrity

This incident highlights the AAP's ongoing efforts to position itself as a party dedicated to clean politics and stringent anti-corruption measures. By taking such a strong stand against one of its own, the Punjab government aims to send a message that no individual, regardless of their position, is above the law.

The arrest of Minister Bhullar serves as a pivotal example of the party's principles in action, potentially influencing public perception and setting a precedent for other political entities to follow in matters of accountability and justice.
