AAP Leaders Hail Arrest of Sacked Punjab Minister in Abetment-to-Suicide Case

In a significant development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have publicly commended the arrest of their party's dismissed Punjab minister, Laljit Singh Bhullar, in an abetment-to-suicide case. The arrest, which occurred on Monday, has drawn attention to the party's stance on justice and accountability.

Bhagwant Mann's Firm Stance Against Corruption

Shortly after Bhullar's arrest, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann issued a statement on X, vowing that protecting individuals from legal consequences is not part of his party's agenda. He emphasized a strict prohibition on "cash and special requests", highlighting the government's commitment to transparency and fairness.

Mann stated, "For me, all of Punjab is one family. If anyone in Punjab violates the law, strict action will be taken against them, no matter what position they hold or whether they are a relative or someone influential. Protecting anyone is not our party's agenda. Cash and special requests (favoritism) are strictly prohibited."

Bhullar faces accusations of abetting the March 21 suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar. The case has sparked widespread discussion on political accountability and ethical governance.

Arvind Kejriwal's Praise for Decisive Action

Arvind Kejriwal, in a press statement, described the arrest as a "decisive step", asserting that when it comes to justice, AAP does not hesitate to act against its own members. He took to X to elaborate on the party's approach, stating, "Recently, serious allegations were made against a minister in the AAP government in Punjab. Our government, without any delay or bias, took immediate action against that minister, not only removing him from his post but also ensuring his arrest."

Kejriwal further contrasted AAP's actions with those of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing a recent case in Haryana where an ADGP died by suicide and allegations were made against several individuals. He remarked, "Some time ago, an ADGP in Haryana died by suicide. Serious allegations were made against several individuals, but the entire party and the government there came out in support of the accused. This is the difference between the AAP and the BJP. BJP sacrifices justice to protect its own."

Legal Proceedings and Bhullar's Response

A case was registered on Saturday night against Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and personal assistant Dilbag Singh under sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Before his death, Randhawa released a 12-second video blaming Bhullar for his extreme step, adding gravity to the allegations.

In response to the arrest, sacked minister Laljit Singh Bhullar dismissed rumors that he had absconded. He announced his surrender in Mandi Gobindgarh, stating in a Facebook post, "Rumours were being spread that I had run away; there is no truth to it. I will never run from the truth. I have full faith in the law of the country and also have unshakable faith in the justice system. I have not run away anywhere; I am in my Punjab. Believing in truth and justice, I am surrendering myself at Mandi Gobindgarh."

This case underscores AAP's public commitment to upholding justice and combating corruption, even when it involves their own party members. The arrest has sparked debates on political ethics and the role of accountability in governance, with both Kejriwal and Mann using the incident to reinforce their party's principles of transparency and zero tolerance for wrongdoing.
