In a tragic incident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Gurugram, five Uttar Pradesh Police personnel were killed when their vehicle collided with a truck in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased were part of a police team returning from a duty assignment.
Accident Details
The accident took place around 3:30 AM near the Manesar area of the expressway. According to police officials, the police vehicle, a Bolero, was heading towards Delhi when it rammed into a stationary truck from behind. The impact was so severe that the Bolero was completely mangled, and all five occupants died on the spot.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as head constable Rajendra Singh, constables Pradeep Kumar, Ravi Shankar, and two others whose names are being withheld pending family notification. They were posted in the Agra zone of the UP Police and were returning after completing election duty in Haryana.
Investigation Underway
Local police reached the spot shortly after the incident and sent the bodies for postmortem. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Investigators are looking into whether the truck was parked without proper warning signs or if driver fatigue played a role.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity, with senior officers expressing condolences. The UP Police has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The bodies will be handed over to the families after autopsy procedures are completed.
