Zirakpur Aero City: SBI Chief Manager Robbed at Gunpoint in Daylight Attack

In a shocking daylight robbery, two masked assailants on a motorcycle looted gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 4 lakh from a chief manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) at gunpoint in Aero City, Zirakpur. The brazen incident occurred on Saturday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

The victim, identified as Sudhanshu Kumar, a resident of Aero City and an SBI chief manager, was driving his car (PB03BH9349) to his office around 9 am. As he navigated a slip road amid dense fog near his house in Block M, two masked youths riding a Bullet motorcycle suddenly blocked his path.

When Sudhanshu lowered the car window, one of the accused grabbed his hand and began snatching his gold bracelet and chain. He resisted the attack, prompting the assailants to smash the driver-side window with a heavy object. They then pointed a pistol directly at him, forcing him to hand over his gold ornaments. The robbers also attempted to snatch his rings during the confrontation.

Gunshot Fired to Create Panic

Sudhanshu told the police that he tried to move the car forward to save his life. In response, the accused fired a shot inside the vehicle. The bullet struck the window, but he escaped unhurt by sheer luck. The robbers fled the scene immediately after firing, taking gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh with them.

This gunshot was a deliberate act to terrorise the victim and create panic, ensuring a swift getaway. The entire robbery unfolded in broad daylight, highlighting the audacity of the criminals.

Police Response and Investigation

Following the incident, the victim raised an alarm, alerting nearby residents. Police teams rushed to the scene and launched an extensive search operation. However, the accused could not be traced at that time.

Zirakpur police station investigating officer Labh Singh confirmed the incident. He stated, "We have received a complaint. The complainant has stated that a shot was fired; its confirmation is being verified. CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas are being examined."

Authorities are now scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the masked assailants and their motorcycle. The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on gathering evidence and tracking down the perpetrators.

This robbery has raised serious concerns about safety in Zirakpur's Aero City area. Residents are alarmed by the violent nature of the crime, which involved a firearm and occurred during morning hours. Many are calling for increased police patrols and better surveillance to prevent such incidents in the future.
