Ahmedabad: Women Assault Police Officers Inside Nikol Police Station
Women Assault Cops at Nikol Police Station in Ahmedabad

A shocking incident of assault on police personnel unfolded late Sunday night inside the premises of the Nikol Police Station in Ahmedabad. A 31-year-old police station officer (PSO) filed a complaint alleging that she and two other cops were physically attacked by two women who had forced their way into the station.

Unauthorized Entry Sparks Confrontation

The incident, as detailed in the First Information Report (FIR), began around 8:45 PM on Sunday. Two women, identified as residents of Asarwa, entered the police station and approached the lock-up area. Their aim was to speak with a detainee, who is the husband of the main accused. This man had been taken into custody a couple of days prior in connection with charges of house break-in and theft.

When the on-duty PSO questioned their unauthorized presence and asked them to leave, referencing a similar incident earlier, the situation quickly deteriorated into a heated verbal argument. The officers then attempted to escort the two women out of the restricted area.

Altercation Escalates to Physical Assault

The FIR alleges that as the police tried to remove them, one of the women engaged in a scuffle with the complainant PSO. The confrontation soon spilled into the corridor. At this point, both women allegedly slapped the PSO multiple times on the face.

As other staff members intervened to control the situation, the accused women reportedly issued a severe threat, stating they would "set the police station on fire." The violence did not stop there. When a constable and a home guard jawan stepped in to pacify them, they too were reportedly slapped multiple times by the assailants.

FIR Filed and Accused Identified

After the assault, the two women eventually left the police station premises. However, the complaint states they continued to issue threats even while exiting. Police Inspector V S Vaghela of Nikol police station provided further details, identifying the accused as the 18-year-old wife and the 19-year-old sister-in-law of the detained man. As of now, the accused women have not been arrested.

In response to the serious breach of security and assault on public servants, the police have registered a formal FIR. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault to deter a public servant from duty, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, and criminal intimidation.

This incident raises significant concerns about the safety of police personnel within their own stations and the challenges they face in maintaining order while dealing with aggressive individuals.
