Woman in Madhya Pradesh Survives Brutal Assault by Husband, Hides in Haystack Overnight
A shocking incident of domestic violence has emerged from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh, where a woman allegedly endured a horrific attack by her husband, involving beating, strangulation, and being set on fire. In a desperate bid for survival, she hid in a haystack throughout the night before walking nearly 4 kilometers to a police station the next morning.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The incident occurred on Sunday in the Naya Chandrapur locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station. According to the survivor, identified as Rashmi Rajput, her husband, Raju Rajput, subjected her to continuous assault throughout the day.
In her statement to the authorities, Rashmi recounted that the assault began in the morning when her husband tried to hang her with a noose. She managed to escape this attempt, but the violence escalated later in the day.
Escalation to a Life-Threatening Attack
Between 4 pm and 5 pm, the situation took a terrifying turn. Her husband allegedly poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. As flames engulfed her body, she ran for her life while he chased her. In a moment of sheer desperation, she sought refuge inside a nearby haystack.
Despite suffering severe burn injuries, Rashmi remained hidden in the haystack for the entire night. At daybreak, still in excruciating pain and with partial burns, she mustered the strength to walk approximately 4 kilometers to the Civil Lines police station to report the ordeal.
Medical Treatment and Police Response
Upon hearing her account, the police immediately arranged for her to be taken to the district hospital for urgent medical attention. Doctors have confirmed that she sustained serious burn injuries but is currently in stable condition.
In a poignant twist, Rashmi reportedly pleaded with the police not to register a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband. She expressed deep concern for the future of her children, fearing the consequences if her husband were to be jailed.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation Status
The police have stated that they are in the process of recording her statement and examining the matter thoroughly. Authorities emphasized that legal provisions will be followed in accordance with the law, regardless of the survivor's request not to file a case.
As of now, the accused husband, Raju Rajput, is absconding. A full investigation is underway to apprehend him and gather further evidence related to this brutal incident.
