The victim, identified as Pechiammal, a resident of Shanmugapuram near Rajavallipuram, succumbed to her injuries on the spot after a brutal attack with a sickle.

Pechiammal had separated from her husband, Sudhakar, 29, approximately two years ago following frequent marital disputes. The couple, who have two children together, faced ongoing rifts that ultimately led to their separation. After the split, Pechiammal moved to her mother's residence in Melapalamadai and took up employment at a local textile showroom to financially support her children.
Despite the separation, Sudhakar made multiple attempts to convince Pechiammal to reconcile, all of which she refused. Police investigations reveal that Sudhakar harbored deep resentment over her refusal to return, compounded by suspicions that further fueled his anger.
The Fatal Confrontation
On Sunday morning, as Pechiammal was on her way to work, Sudhakar followed her to the Tirunelveli junction bus stand. Around 10:15 AM, Pechiammal alighted from a bus and sat at a passenger shelter while talking on her phone. At this moment, Sudhakar confronted her, leading to a heated argument between the two.
In a fit of rage, Sudhakar pulled out a concealed sickle and repeatedly hacked Pechiammal on her neck. The attack was so severe that she died instantly at the scene. Panicked commuters witnessed the gruesome act and fled in terror, leaving the area in chaos.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team swiftly rushed to the spot. They recovered the body and transported it to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
