Hyderabad Woman Allegedly Attempts to Murder Four-Year-Old Nephew with Toilet-Cleaning Acid

In a shocking incident from Hyderabad's Boduppal area, a housewife has been formally booked by police for an alleged attempt to murder her four-year-old nephew. The accused, identified as Manjula, is accused of making the young boy consume toilet-cleaning acid in what appears to be a premeditated act stemming from prolonged family tensions.

Detailed Account of the Alleged Acid Incident

The complaint was filed by P Sandhya, the 24-year-old mother of the victim, P Karthik, with the Medipally police on April 14. According to Sandhya's statement, the incident occurred at approximately 10 PM on April 9. Manjula, who is Sandhya's sister-in-law, called Karthik to her room under the pretext of offering him chocolate.

"She took Karthik into the kitchen, saying that chocolate would be given once he consumes juice, and poured toilet-cleaning acid in a glass and gave it to Karthik," Sandhya alleged in her police complaint. "I heard my son crying in pain after consuming acid and rushed there. Manjula tried lying to me, saying that the boy accidentally consumed acid, but Karthik told me that she had offered him the acid."

Immediate Medical Response and Police Action

The child was immediately rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment. After three days of intensive medical care, Karthik was discharged on April 12. Following his recovery, Sandhya approached the Medipally police station on April 14 to file a formal complaint against Manjula.

Based on the allegations, a case has been registered against Manjula under Section 109 (Attempt to murder) of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Medipally inspector Ch Shankaraiah confirmed, "Manjula is absconding. We are trying to locate and arrest her."

Background of Family Disputes and Previous Incidents

Sandhya's complaint reveals a troubling pattern of behavior and ongoing family conflicts. The family resides together in a joint household, including Sandhya, her in-laws, her brother-in-law Jagadeesh, and his wife Manjula along with their own son.

According to Sandhya, Manjula frequently quarreled with her over trivial matters. More significantly, Manjula had repeatedly argued with their father-in-law, Santosh Kumar, accusing him of showing more affection towards Karthik than towards her own son.

"Despite our father-in-law clarifying that for him both the grandchildren were equal, Manjula continued to bear ill feelings and tried to harm my son multiple times," Sandhya stated in her complaint.

The alleged acid incident was not the first attempt to harm the child. Sandhya reported that Manjula had previously tried to smother Karthik, though that attempt failed. On another occasion, Manjula allegedly made the boy sit on a parapet without holding him, putting him at serious risk of falling.

Current Status and Investigation Progress

The Medipally police are actively pursuing the investigation to locate and apprehend the accused. The case highlights serious concerns about domestic violence and child safety within family environments. The use of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions indicates the gravity with which authorities are treating this attempted murder case.

As the search for Manjula continues, the family remains traumatized by the events, with the young victim having narrowly escaped a potentially fatal outcome through timely medical intervention.
