Shocking Afternoon Attack in Gorakhpur

A terrifying incident unfolded in the Gulriha area of Gorakhpur on Monday afternoon, where a woman was targeted in a brutal attack. The victim was on her way to a Jan Seva Kendra to withdraw money when she was intercepted by two unidentified youths riding a motorcycle.

Details of the Assault

According to the police complaint, the assailants, both wearing helmets, stopped the woman near Jungle Ayodhya Prasad Tola, close to Hatwa Tiraha. In a brazen act, they poured petrol on her and attempted to set her on fire. Showing immense presence of mind, the woman raised an alarm and managed to escape, running towards her home for safety.

Upon reaching her residence, she immediately informed her nephew and dialled the emergency helpline number 112. The prompt call for help brought police personnel from the PRV unit and Gulriha police station to the scene, where they conducted a preliminary inspection.

Police Investigation Underway

The woman is a resident of a village that falls under the jurisdiction of the Gulriha police station. Commenting on the case, CO Gorakhnath Ravi Kumar Singh stated that the matter appeared "suspicious at first glance". He assured that the allegations are being thoroughly investigated and further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.

This alarming attack in a public area has raised serious concerns about safety. The police are currently working to identify and apprehend the two helmet-wearing youths involved in this attempted assault.
