Gurgaon Tragedy: Wife Held After Retired Navy Officer Dies in Accidental Knife Injury
In a shocking incident in Gurgaon, the wife of a retired Navy officer was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly accidentally killed him at their residence. The event unfolded on Sunday in Nakhrola village, leading to a police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, Sunil, a 45-year-old man who worked at a private company in Gurgaon, returned home in an inebriated state. As he lost his balance while heading to the bathroom, his wife Mamta, aged 43, rushed to assist him. At the time, she was cutting vegetables with a knife, and in the commotion, the knife pierced his chest accidentally, resulting in fatal injuries.
Sunil was immediately taken to a hospital in Gurgaon, where he was declared dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination conducted on Monday confirmed that the death was caused by an injury from a sharp weapon. Following this, Sunil's uncle filed a complaint at the Kherki Daula police station on Tuesday, prompting further action.
Legal Proceedings and Police Investigation
An FIR was registered for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, leading to Mamta's arrest. She was produced in court on Thursday and remanded in one-day police custody for additional questioning and evidence recovery. Police officials stated that the viscera sample report is awaited to confirm whether Sunil had consumed alcohol at the time of the incident.
