A wanted criminal, carrying a substantial cash reward on his head, was killed in a dramatic police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district. The incident unfolded during a late-night vehicle checking operation, leading to an exchange of fire between the police team and the accused.
The Fatal Encounter in Banda
The encounter took place near the Kamasin dam area under the Kamasin police station limits. According to police officials, a team was conducting a routine vehicle check on Sunday night. When they signaled a suspicious motorcycle to stop, the rider, later identified as the wanted criminal, opened fire on the police personnel in a bid to escape.
The police team, acting in self-defence, retaliated. In the ensuing gunfight, the criminal sustained critical bullet injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. No police personnel were injured in the operation.
Identity and Criminal Record of the Deceased
The slain criminal was identified as Ravindra Kol, a resident of Banda district. Police records indicate he was a notorious figure with multiple serious cases registered against him. His criminal portfolio included charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the stringent Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.
Due to his involvement in grave crimes and his status as a persistent threat to law and order, the Uttar Pradesh Police had announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his capture. This significant bounty underscored the priority placed on his arrest by the state police force.
