In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment's Gorakhpur unit has apprehended a government clerk for allegedly accepting a bribe. The incident, which underscores the ongoing crackdown on graft in the state, took place in the Mau district.
Clerk Caught Red-Handed in Sting Operation
The accused has been identified as Ram Milan Yadav, a clerk posted at the office of the District Manager of the Pradeshik Cooperative Federation (PCF) in Mau. According to officials, Yadav was arrested on Monday, December 16, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000. The vigilance trap team caught him in the act near Bhiti Chauraha under Sadar tehsil in Mau district at around 5:30 PM.
Complaint That Led to the Trap
The arrest followed a formal complaint filed by Shaukat Ali, son of late Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Indara village under the Kopaganj police station. Ali, who serves as the in-charge of a paddy procurement centre at Sadhan Sahkari Samiti B-PACS Bhiti, had approached the district PCF office after the biometric attendance machine used for government paddy procurement malfunctioned. He also needed a supply of jute sacks for the procurement operations.
After meeting the district manager, Shaukat Ali was directed to clerk Ram Milan Yadav. It is alleged that Yadav demanded ₹25,000 as a bribe to arrange for the repair of the fingerprint machine and the supply of the jute sacks. Unwilling to comply with this illegal demand, the complainant approached the UP Vigilance Establishment, seeking legal action against the corrupt official.
Legal Proceedings and Public Appeal
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the vigilance team from the Gorakhpur sector laid a meticulous trap, following all prescribed procedures. Following the successful operation and arrest, a formal case has been registered against Ram Milan Yadav under relevant sections of the law at the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment police station in Gorakhpur. Further legal proceedings are currently underway.
In light of this event, the Superintendent of Police for the UP Vigilance Establishment's Gorakhpur sector has made a strong appeal to the public. Citizens are encouraged to come forward and report any instance where a government official demands a bribe. The authorities have provided dedicated contact numbers for this purpose:
