UP Police Officer Injured in Mysterious Shooting at Sultanpur Station
A 50-year-old station house officer serving at the Akhandnagar police station in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, sustained a serious gunshot injury under highly suspicious circumstances at his government residence on Sunday evening. The incident unfolded within the police station premises itself, raising immediate concerns and prompting a swift investigation by senior officials.
Details of the Incident and Officer's Condition
The injured officer has been identified as Arun Kumar Dwivedi. He suffered a bullet wound below his right shoulder. Despite the severity of his injury, Dwivedi reportedly managed to exit his residence, where on-duty police personnel noticed his condition and immediately alerted senior officers.
He received initial medical attention at a nearby facility in Sultanpur but was subsequently transferred to Lucknow for more advanced and specialized treatment due to the nature of the injury.
Police Response and Scene Investigation
Superintendent of Police for Sultanpur, Charu Nigam, rushed to the police station upon receiving information about the shooting. A thorough inspection of the scene was conducted.
During this inspection, investigators recovered the officer's licensed revolver from the room. Visible bloodstains were also noted at the location. Officials have stated that the exact circumstances leading to the firearm's discharge remain unclear and are yet to be fully ascertained.
