Tragic House Fire Claims Life of UP Police Head Constable
A devastating house fire in Meerut's Sharma Nagar area claimed the life of a 36-year-old police head constable in the early hours of Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the local community and police force.
Victim Identified as 2011-Batch Recruit
The deceased has been identified as Vibhor Kumar, a 2011-batch police recruit who was currently posted at the Meerut Police Lines. Originally from Shamli, Kumar was living alone in the rented accommodation at the time of the tragic incident.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Vipin Tada, the tragedy unfolded around 3:30 am when the house owner noticed smoke coming from Kumar's room. The landlord immediately raised an alarm, alerting neighbors who quickly gathered at the scene.
Dramatic Rescue Attempt Fails
In a desperate attempt to save the police constable, the landlord broke open the door to Kumar's room. However, they discovered the worst - Kumar was found dead with severe burn injuries. Despite immediate response from both police and fire officials who reached the spot promptly, nothing could be done to save the young officer's life.
The body was subsequently sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death and gather more forensic evidence about the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Investigation Points to Possible Causes
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the fire might have been triggered by one of two possible sources. Police suspect the blaze may have been caused by a cigarette ember that wasn't properly extinguished. Alternatively, the fire could have started from a mosquito-repellent incense stick that might have come into contact with flammable materials in the room.
Authorities have emphasized that further investigations are currently underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this tragic incident. The police are examining all angles and evidence to establish a definitive cause for the fire that cut short the life of the promising police officer.
The incident has highlighted the importance of fire safety measures in residential accommodations, particularly for individuals living alone. The local police department has expressed deep condolences to Kumar's family and colleagues, remembering him as a dedicated officer who served with distinction since his recruitment in 2011.
