A shocking incident of fratricide and matricide has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, where a man allegedly killed his mother and younger brother over a dispute concerning ancestral property. The accused, identified as Ramesh, has been arrested by the police.
Details of the Incident
The gruesome incident took place in the village of Mahua Khera under the Kotwali police station area. According to police reports, Ramesh had been involved in a long-standing feud with his family over the division of ancestral land and property. On the fateful day, an argument escalated into violence, leading Ramesh to attack his mother, Savitri (55), and his younger brother, Sunil (30), with a sharp-edged weapon. Both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the incident, local police rushed to the scene. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Senior police officials visited the site to oversee the investigation.
Circle Officer (CO) Banda, Rajesh Kumar, confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody. He stated, "The accused has confessed to the crime during interrogation. He revealed that the dispute over ancestral property had been ongoing for several years, and on the day of the incident, a heated argument broke out, leading to the murders."
Family Background and Motive
Neighbors and relatives disclosed that Ramesh had been demanding his share of the property for a long time, but his mother and brother were not agreeable to his terms. This led to frequent quarrels within the family. On the day of the incident, the argument turned violent, resulting in the tragic deaths.
The deceased, Savitri, was a widow, and Sunil was unmarried. Ramesh, who is married with children, lived separately from his mother and brother. The exact nature of the property dispute is still being investigated.
Legal Proceedings
The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 302 (murder) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused will be produced before the local court, where the prosecution will seek his remand for further interrogation.
This tragic incident highlights the deep-rooted issues related to property disputes in rural India, often leading to violence within families. Authorities are urging people to resolve such matters through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
