Arrest Made After CCTV Footage Identifies Driver
An unlicensed conductor has been arrested in connection with a school bus crash in Udupi, after CCTV footage revealed he was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. The incident occurred on June 25 at approximately 8:05 am on National Highway 169A near Syndicate Circle, according to police officials.
Details of the Accident
The school bus, carrying students, crashed under unclear circumstances, leading to injuries among the children. Initial reports had attributed the crash to the regular driver, but subsequent review of CCTV cameras showed that the conductor—who did not possess a valid driving license—was driving the vehicle. Police arrested the conductor on July 4, 2026, and he is currently in custody.
Police Investigation and Charges
Senior police officers confirmed that the conductor has been charged with negligent driving and operating a vehicle without a license. “The CCTV footage clearly shows the conductor driving the bus. He had no license, and his actions led to the accident,” a police spokesperson stated. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the school administration was aware of the conductor’s lack of qualifications.
Impact on Students and Community
The crash injured several students, though none were reported in critical condition. Parents have expressed outrage over the incident, demanding stricter background checks for school transport staff. The school has not yet issued a public statement regarding the arrest.
