Two Punjab Men Held with Rs 13.7 Lakh Drugs in Navi Mumbai

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Navi Mumbai police apprehended two individuals from Punjab following a raid at a hostel in Belapur. The operation led to the seizure of opium and heroin with a combined street value of approximately Rs 13.7 lakh.

Details of the Belapur Hostel Raid

The police action unfolded on December 3 around 12:15 pm. Acting on specific intelligence gathered during a major anti-drug operation on November 19, officers raided the hostel premises. The two accused, identified as Kulwinder Singh (36) and Malkit Singh (32), were taken into custody from their room.

Substantial Drug Haul Recovered

A thorough search of the hostel room yielded a significant cache of illicit substances and paraphernalia. The seized items included:

  • 144 grams of opium, valued at around Rs 7.2 lakh.
  • 13 grams of heroin, with an estimated worth of Rs 6.5 lakh.
  • An electronic weighing scale and various materials used for packing drugs.

Senior Inspector Sandeep Nigade of the ANC confirmed the details of the seizure and the subsequent arrest.

Interrogation Reveals Supply Chain from Punjab

During interrogation in police custody, the arrested duo disclosed crucial information about their supply network. They confessed to purchasing the narcotics from a supplier named Gurpreet Saini. The investigation further uncovered that the drugs were being smuggled from Punjab into Navi Mumbai using trucks and trains, intended for distribution in the local market.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Navi Mumbai police to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks. The probe is continuing to track down the main supplier and other links in the chain.
