Amritsar Police Nab Two Key Suspects in Jandiala Guru Jewellery Shop Firing
Two prime suspects arrested in Amritsar jewellery shop firing

In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police on Friday announced the arrest of two prime suspects allegedly involved in a brazen firing incident at a jewellery shop in Jandiala Guru earlier this month.

Dramatic Arrest at Taragarh Canal Checkpoint

According to Suhail Qasim Mir, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar (Rural), the accused were identified as Akaash Tejpal and Vishaldeep Singh. Both men are residents of Noordi Adda. The police apprehended the duo at a checkpoint or 'naka' set up near the Taragarh Canal.

The operation took a dramatic turn when the suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, were signaled to stop by the police. Instead of complying, they attempted to speed away and flee the scene. During their escape attempt, their motorcycle slipped, causing them to fall.

Exchange of Fire and Injuries During Capture

In a desperate bid to evade arrest, the two men opened fire on the police personnel present at the scene. The police team promptly took retaliatory action. In the ensuing exchange, one of the accused, Akaash Tejpal, sustained injuries.

The police team successfully overpowered both individuals. Following the arrest, the injured Akaash was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The police also made a crucial recovery from the suspects' possession, seizing two firearms: a .30 bore pistol and a .32 bore pistol.

Connection to January 5th Jewellery Shop Shooting

This arrest is directly linked to a serious crime that occurred on January 5. On that day, two unidentified persons had opened fire at a jewellery shop located near Balmiki Chowk in the Darshani Bazaar area of Jandiala Guru. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

The police had earlier made progress in the case with the arrest of two other individuals: Kavish and Meharbeer, both residents of Tarn Taran. During their interrogation, these earlier arrestees revealed that they had conducted a reconnaissance or a prior survey of the targeted jewellery shop before the actual firing incident took place.

The latest arrests of Akaash Tejpal and Vishaldeep Singh mark a major step forward in the investigation, bringing the alleged shooters into custody. The Amritsar Rural Police continue their probe to uncover the full conspiracy and motive behind the attack.
