A serious road accident occurred on Maa Flyover in Kolkata on Saturday evening, leaving two people with severe injuries. A man and a woman were traveling on a motorcycle when a car, heading towards Park Circus, struck their two-wheeler. The impact caused the car to collide with the median divider on the flyover.
Injuries and Hospitalization
The two individuals on the bike sustained serious leg injuries in the collision. Police immediately rushed them to SSKM Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that their injuries were serious but not life-threatening. The car driver involved in the accident received only minor injuries during the incident.
Police Investigation and Traffic Disruption
Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident. Police stated that the reason behind the collision remains under investigation. As part of the probe, the car will undergo a mechanical test to check for any faults.

Officers from the Pragati Maidan Police Station and the Tiljala Traffic Guard quickly responded to the scene. They temporarily closed the flyover to vehicles and diverted traffic to the Park Circus connector below to manage the situation.
Call for Safety Measures
This incident has prompted Kolkata Traffic Police to renew their demand for improved safety on Maa Flyover. They plan to approach the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) once again. Police are specifically requesting the installation of crash-barriers at accident-prone spots, particularly on the Garia ramp.
History of Accidents at the Location
Saturday's collision took place near a diversion point on the flyover. A Lalbazar officer revealed that this spot has seen multiple accidents in the past. Four accidents have been reported from this area recently.
In two of these previous incidents, three bikers suffered severe injuries. One couple from Sarsuna and another individual from Patharpratima were injured near the Garia ramp and the 4 No. Bridge. Police emphasize the urgent need for crash-barriers to prevent such accidents in the future.
