Tree Collapse in Indiranagar Leaves Two Hospitalized
A tree fell in a park in Bengaluru's Indiranagar locality on Monday, leaving two people severely injured. The incident occurred in the afternoon, catching visitors off guard. The most seriously hurt victim is a 24-year-old woman who works as a corporate employee and resides in Indiranagar. She sustained injuries to her spine and forehead and also fractured her ribs, according to a report by DHNS.
Another individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, also sustained injuries in the incident. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of the woman is stated to be serious but stable.
Details of the Incident
The tree, a large rain tree, collapsed without warning in the park, which is a popular spot for morning and evening walks. Witnesses reported a loud cracking sound before the tree came crashing down. Park authorities and local residents rushed to help the injured and alerted emergency services.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been informed about the incident. An official stated that a team has been sent to inspect the site and assess the health of other trees in the park to prevent similar incidents. The exact cause of the tree fall is under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest possible root decay due to recent rains.
Impact and Response
The incident has raised concerns about tree safety in Bengaluru's parks, especially during the monsoon season when soil becomes loose. Local residents have demanded a thorough audit of all trees in public parks. The BBMP has assured that they will conduct a safety check and take necessary action, including pruning or removing weak trees.
As of the latest update, the injured woman is under observation, and doctors are monitoring her condition. The other injured person is reported to be out of danger. The park has been temporarily closed for public safety.
