Two held for solar CCTV spy cam on Bathinda highway

Bathinda: Two men from Amritsar's Ajnala sub-division have been arrested for installing a solar-powered CCTV camera on an electricity pole on the Bathinda-Malout highway to spy on police movements, Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh said on Monday.

Arrest and Investigation

Following a tip-off on June 9, the Thermal Police registered a case under the Official Secrets Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The SP said Ashok Singh was arrested on June 10, which led to the arrest of his accomplice, Akashdeep Singh, on June 14. The SP said they are investigating the suspects' motives. Two additional suspects have been identified and remain at large.

Previous Incidents

More than a month ago, Punjab counter-intelligence (CI) busted two ISI-controlled modules and arrested three suspects for spying on military establishments via solar-powered CCTV cameras in Kapurthala and Jalandhar. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had said the accused used to transmit the footage live to Pak-based handlers through mobile apps.
