Delhi Police has arrested two key members of the notorious Hashim Baba gang in connection with the brutal murder of two brothers in Northeast Delhi's Jafrabad area last month. The arrests followed a brief exchange of fire at the Ghazipur Paper Market on Thursday.
Details of the Arrest and the Accused
The police identified the arrested individuals as Asad Amin (22) and Mohammad Danish (34). According to officers, Asad Amin is the alleged shooter who fired the fatal bullets. Mohammad Danish, a resident of Jafrabad who holds a law degree, is described as the "main conspirator" behind the attack.
An investigating officer revealed that Amin is a key member of the Hashim Baba gang and was previously involved in a firing incident at GTB Hospital in 2024. Danish was allegedly working with the same gang as an arms supplier, facilitating the network of illegal weapons.
The Brutal Jafrabad Shooting
The crime took place on December 16, 2025. The victims, identified as Nadeem and Fazeel, were shot dead by three assailants on a motorcycle. In a chilling display of violence, the attackers pumped approximately 50 bullets into the brothers.
Police investigations indicate that the murder was a meticulously planned operation. The assailants had lain in wait for nearly half an hour before executing the attack. Both brothers succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Probe Uncovers Arms Syndicate Link
During the investigation, a significant revelation came to light. The police found that the murdered brothers were allegedly part of an illegal arms supply syndicate. This network was reportedly run by a top arms supplier known as Salim Ahmad alias Salim Pistol.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Vikram Singh stated, "The murders appeared to be retaliatory killings linked to illegal arms dealing." He provided further context, noting that Salim Pistol was arrested by the Special Cell in August 2025. During interrogation, Salim Pistol had informed the police about Nadeem's involvement in illicit arms dealings.
DCP Singh explained the motive behind the killing: "Nadeem was questioned and he disclosed Danish's name... Since then, Danish had been absconding... He allegedly planned revenge against Nadeem for revealing his name." This disclosure allegedly triggered the plot for retaliation, leading to the December shooting.
The Operation Leading to Arrest
The breakthrough in the case came on Thursday, following a specific tip-off received by the police. A trap was laid at the Ghazipur Paper Market to apprehend the accused.
An officer involved in the operation recounted, "When the police attempted to arrest them, they opened fire.... Officers retaliated, injuring both men." The injured accused were subsequently taken into custody and are now facing legal proceedings for murder and related charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
The arrests mark a significant step in cracking down on gang violence and the intertwined network of illegal arms trading in the national capital. The police continue their investigations to uncover further links and possibly apprehend other individuals involved in the syndicate.
