A devastating road accident in the Laikera block of Jharsuguda district has resulted in the deaths of two elderly men and left a third person in critical condition. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the car they were traveling in lost control and collided with a tree.

According to police reports, the victims had attended a wedding ceremony at Laida in Sambalpur district. The three occupants were identified as Sushil Patel, 72, from Sahaspur, Pramodini Choudhury, 80, from Bandhapali village near Sahaspur, and Kuber Choudhury, 63, who was driving the vehicle. While returning from the event, the car reportedly lost balance at Dhuka Chowk in Laikera and crashed violently into a tree.
Emergency Response and Medical Treatment
All three injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Mundrajore community health center for emergency care. Tragically, Pramodini Choudhury was declared dead upon arrival at the facility. The other two victims were subsequently referred to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital for further treatment.
At the district hospital, doctors confirmed that Sushil Patel had also succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, driver Kuber Choudhury's condition remained critical, prompting medical authorities to transfer him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced medical intervention and specialized care.

Laikera police station officials have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. IIC Krushnachandra Meher stated that authorities are working to determine the exact familial relationships between the victims as part of their inquiry.
The police official confirmed that post-mortem examinations will be conducted on Tuesday, following which the bodies of the deceased will be formally handed over to their respective families for final rites and ceremonies.
