Two Killed, Polish Tourist Critically Injured in KMP Expressway Collision
A devastating road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway near Yadupur village has resulted in two fatalities and left one foreign national with serious injuries. The tragic incident occurred in the early morning hours of February 18, according to police authorities.
Sequence of Events Leading to Fatal Crash
The chain of events began when a goods truck experienced mechanical failure on the expressway during the pre-dawn hours. The truck driver, identified as Manjesh Singh, exited his vehicle to warn approaching traffic and prevent potential accidents. While he was performing this safety measure, a taxi traveling from the Manesar direction allegedly struck him, causing injuries.
Moments later, a speeding dumper truck reportedly being operated in a reckless manner collided with the taxi from behind. The impact was so forceful that it propelled the car into a stationary truck parked along the roadside. The taxi became trapped between the two heavy vehicles, suffering catastrophic damage in the process.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Police and emergency services immediately rushed to the accident site after receiving notification about the collision. With assistance from local residents, rescue teams managed to extract three individuals who were trapped inside the severely damaged taxi.
The taxi driver, Mohammad Nafis, a resident of Agra, and a Polish tourist identified as Michal Majzik (29) were pronounced dead at the scene due to extensive injuries.
Another Polish national, Agnieszka Kacynel (27), who was traveling with Majzik, sustained critical injuries and required urgent medical attention. She was promptly transported to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for advanced treatment and specialized care.
Tourist Destination Trip Turns Tragic
Investigations revealed that the Polish tourists had been picked up from a hotel in Gurgaon earlier that morning. They were en route to Agra with the specific purpose of visiting the iconic Taj Mahal when the fatal accident abruptly ended their journey.
The injured truck driver, Manjesh Singh, received hospital treatment for his injuries. Following his medical care, he filed a formal complaint seeking legal action against the dumper truck driver. In his statement, Singh alleged that reckless driving directly caused the fatal multi-vehicle collision.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Based on the complaint submitted by Singh, police authorities registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Sections 125(A), 281, and 106, which pertain to various aspects of road safety violations and negligence.
Police officials acknowledged that the registration process experienced a slight delay due to technical issues with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS). Authorities have now launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the precise sequence of events and identify all parties responsible for the tragic incident.
The accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on major expressways and serves as a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving behavior.
