Tuticorin: Two men died after their two-wheeler was involved in a head-on collision with a private bus at a sharp bend near Puliyankulam in Tuticorin district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Angappan, 26, and Isakkimuthu, 19, both residents of Karungulam.

According to police, the duo was travelling from Karungulam towards Srivaikuntam when the accident occurred. When they reached a sharp curve in Puliyankulam, a private bus speeding from Tiruchendur towards Tirunelveli reportedly veered into their lane and crashed into their two-wheeler. The impact of the collision was severe, throwing both riders off the motorcycle.

Both victims sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. Passersby alerted the police, following which police rushed to the spot and initiated rescue and investigation efforts. The bodies were recovered and sent to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that overspeeding and the risky curve may have contributed to the accident. Seydunganallur police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.
