Two Arrested in Samastipur Gang Rape Case; Victim Abducted from Hotel
In a disturbing incident in Samastipur district, two persons were apprehended by police on Sunday in connection with the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman from Kolkata. The crime occurred on the night of March 20, when the victim was forcibly taken to a hotel and assaulted by four individuals.
Details of the Abduction and Assault
The woman had traveled from Kolkata to Samastipur after being invited to a hotel by an acquaintance on March 20. According to police reports, both were known to each other and had previously communicated over the phone. However, upon her arrival, four youths in a black SUV abducted her from the initial hotel location and transported her to another establishment, where the gang rape allegedly took place.
The victim managed to flee the scene on Saturday morning and promptly filed a formal complaint at the women police station in Samastipur. Her bravery in escaping and reporting the crime has been crucial in initiating the investigation.
Police Action and Arrests
SHO Preeti Kumari of the women police station confirmed the arrests of Dilip Kumar, a resident of Belsandi Deeh village under Vibhutipur police station, and Suresh Giri from Kodariya village. Dilip Kumar has a prior criminal record, having been arrested by Vibhutipur police in 2023 in a prostitution case and subsequently jailed.
Based on the victim's application, a case has been registered against six named individuals and one unknown person. Additionally, an FIR has been filed against the hotel staff and operator involved in the incident. Dilip Kumar was employed as staff at the hotel where the woman was initially called, highlighting potential complicity in the crime.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt
The hotel owner, Yahswant Kumar Singh, along with other accused persons, remains at large. Police are conducting intensive raids across the region to apprehend them.
