Two Men Arrested in Sundargarh District for Alleged Murder and Burial of Woman

In a shocking incident in Odisha, two men were apprehended by the K Balang police in the Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district on Wednesday. They are accused of killing a woman and secretly burying her body in a forest approximately 17 days prior to their arrest.

Details of the Accused and the Crime

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Rushu Munda, aged 45, and his associate Amika Munda, aged 26. Both are residents of Swyamba village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the K Balang police station.

According to official reports, the victim, Khairi Munda (45), had visited the Renjda weekly market on February 7 but never returned home. Her husband, Charan Munda (50), conducted an extensive search but could not locate her. On February 23, he received alarming information from local villagers suggesting that his wife had been murdered by two men from their own community.

Police Investigation and Recovery of the Body

Acting on this tip, Charan Munda filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the K Balang police station on February 24, explicitly naming Rushu and Amika as the suspects. Police swiftly detained both individuals for questioning.

During interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement and guided law enforcement officials to the Renjda forest, where they had buried Khairi Munda's body. The remains were exhumed in the presence of a magistrate and subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Motive Behind the Gruesome Act

In a detailed statement to the police, Rushu Munda revealed the motive behind the crime. He alleged that Charan Munda, the victim's husband, had been frequently visiting his (Rushu's) house to engage in an illicit relationship with his wife. Despite repeated warnings, Charan reportedly continued this behavior, which fueled Rushu's anger and resentment.

Rushu admitted that his original plan was to murder Charan Munda. However, on February 7, when he could not find Charan, he encountered Khairi Munda as she was returning from the market. A confrontation ensued, during which Khairi defended her husband's actions. This defense enraged Rushu, leading him to strangle her on the spot. With the assistance of Amika, they transported the body to the nearby forest and buried it to conceal the crime.

AK Behera, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of the K Balang police station, confirmed these details, stating that the investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served.
