Two arrested for kidnapping labourer, demanding ransom in Gurgaon

Gurgaon police have swiftly arrested two individuals for allegedly kidnapping a labourer, robbing him, and then demanding a ransom from his brother. The incident, which unfolded on Saturday, saw the accused apprehended within hours of the crime being reported.

How the Kidnapping Unfolded

The victim, identified as Rajaram, a resident of Behrampur who originally hails from Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, was returning from work to his brother's house in Sector 17A around 12:30 pm on Saturday. As he neared old Behrampur, two men in a Maruti Eeco car allegedly forced him inside the vehicle.

The assailants threatened him with death if he raised an alarm and drove him to a deserted jungle area. There, they snatched Rajaram's mobile phone and his purse, which contained Rs 1,500 and his Aadhaar card.

The Ransom Call and Daring Escape

"When his brother called him, the kidnappers answered the call and falsely claimed that Rajaram was intoxicated. They demanded Rs 25,000 for his release before disconnecting the call," stated police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar.

Alerted by the brother, police immediately began their investigation. Meanwhile, Rajaram seized an opportunity for freedom. Taking advantage of the vehicle slowing down near a turn, he managed to escape. He was able to recover his phone during the escape, though his purse remained with the kidnappers.

Rajaram later approached the Sector 65 police station with his brother and filed a formal complaint.

Swift Police Action and Arrests

Acting on the complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 140(3) (wrongful confinement), 308(2) (extortion), and 3(5) (act done by multiple persons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation led to the swift arrest of the two accused on the same day from Baliawas village. The arrested men have been identified as Deepak (25) and Vikas (26), both residents of Bandhwari village.

Police seized the Eeco car used in the crime, which belonged to Deepak. They also recovered the stolen cash and the victim's Aadhaar card.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they worked as drivers and had targeted Rajaram after spotting him walking alone on the road. The investigation further revealed that both accused have previous criminal cases registered against them.

The accused were produced before a court on Sunday and sent to two days of police remand. They were subsequently remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
