Two Arrested for Gang Rape of College Student in Mhow Forest Area
In a distressing incident in Mhow, two persons have been apprehended by police for the alleged gang rape of a college student within the forested confines of the Bercha field firing range. According to official statements from Indore rural Superintendent of Police Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia, the survivor reported the crime to the Badgonda police on the night of April 14. She recounted that she and a friend had visited a temple situated inside the Bercha field firing range near Kelod village in Mhow tehsil. After exiting the temple, while resting in the forest area, they were confronted by two armed individuals wielding a stick.
The assailants initiated a violent assault, beating both the victim and her friend. During the attack, her friend was knocked to the ground, allowing the accused duo to forcibly drag the survivor deeper into the forest. There, they proceeded to take turns raping her, committing a heinous act that has shocked the community.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Following the report, authorities promptly registered a case encompassing charges of gang rape, assault, and criminal intimidation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was immediately constituted to spearhead the inquiry. Leveraging clues provided by the victim and her companion, police sketches of the suspects were developed, and a reward of Rs 10,000 was announced to expedite their capture.
The SIT's efforts bore fruit when they received actionable intelligence indicating that two suspects were loitering in the Bercha forest area. Acting on this tip, law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended the individuals. During subsequent interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, corroborating the victim's account.
Identification of the Accused
Mhow Assistant Superintendent of Police Roopesh Dwivedi confirmed that the arrested persons have been identified as Pintu and Subhash. Both hail from Kuwali village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Manpur police station area.
