A devastating road accident in the early hours of Saturday resulted in the death of a 23-year-old youth after his motorcycle was allegedly struck by a speeding truck near a petrol pump on the Patiala-Chandigarh Road in Mohali. The police have swiftly registered a case against the unidentified truck driver and initiated an intensive manhunt to apprehend the culprit.

Victim Identified as Sunil Kumar from Himachal Pradesh

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kumar, aged 23, originally a native of Siura village in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. At the time of the incident, he was residing in Sector 42, Attawa, Chandigarh, and was employed as a bartender in Zirakpur. His family and community are in mourning following this sudden and tragic loss.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to police reports, the accident occurred when Sunil Kumar was riding his motorcycle back to his rented accommodation. A witness, Parminder Kumar, a resident of Bhabat village, was traveling in his car at the time and later informed the victim's brother, Tarun Kumar, about the incident around 3 am. Parminder stated that a truck bearing a Tamil Nadu registration number allegedly rammed into the motorcycle at high speed near a petrol pump on the highway.

The impact of the collision was severe, throwing Sunil onto the road and causing critical injuries. Shockingly, the truck driver reportedly fled the spot immediately after the accident, leaving the victim in a dire condition.

Emergency Response and Legal Action

The injured youth was rushed to a private hospital in Zirakpur for initial treatment. Due to the gravity of his injuries, he was later referred to GMCH-32 in Chandigarh. Tragically, doctors at GMCH-32 declared him brought dead upon arrival. In response, the police have registered a case against the truck driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and seize the vehicle involved in this fatal incident.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and hit-and-run incidents in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and driver accountability.
