Tragic Accident on Ajmer-Beawar Highway Claims Woman's Life
A devastating road accident on the Ajmer-Beawar highway resulted in the death of a woman on Thursday afternoon, leading to significant traffic disruptions and protests by local villagers. The incident occurred near the Nareili bypass, where a speeding trailer truck crushed the victim under its wheels.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, the victim has been identified as Sarita Devi, aged 39, a resident of Rasoolpura. She was crossing the highway when the trailer truck, coming from the Beawar side, struck her. Following the impact, the truck collided with the road divider, causing substantial damage to the vehicle. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the trailer behind.
Villagers Stage Protest Over Road Safety Concerns
In response to the tragedy, villagers from Nareili gathered at the accident site and staged a protest, blocking traffic on the highway for over an hour. The protesters highlighted long-standing safety issues, stating that they have repeatedly demanded an underpass at this location. "We often have to cross the highway to reach the other side, and this spot is particularly dangerous," one villager explained, emphasizing the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to prevent such accidents.
Police Response and Investigation
Officers from the Alwar Gate police station arrived at the scene and seized the damaged trailer truck. SHO Narendra Jhakar managed to persuade the protesting villagers to lift the blockade and engage in discussions with administrative officials regarding road safety measures. The police have taken Sarita Devi's body for a postmortem examination and are actively searching for the driver, who remains at large. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about highway safety in the region and the critical need for better pedestrian infrastructure.
