Tragic Incident in Sonatala Village
In a shocking and tragic incident, police in Tripura have launched a massive search operation for a 37-year-old man from Sonatala village in Khowai district. The man, identified as Asish Debnath, is accused of murdering his own seven-year-old daughter in a sudden fit of rage on Wednesday night.
A Horrific Act of Violence
The terrible event unfolded at the family's residence. According to sources, Asish Debnath was sitting on the veranda of his home around 8 PM when his young daughter, Ankhi Debnath, started crying loudly. The reason for her distress remains unspecified.
In a brutal and swift response, Asish reportedly went inside, fetched a sharp 'dao'—a type of cutting tool common in the region—and struck his daughter directly in the throat. The attack was so sudden and violent that the child collapsed immediately, and no other family member present could intervene in time to save her.
Police Response and Family Background
Upon receiving information about the crime, a team from the Khowai police station rushed to the scene. They transported the grievously injured Ankhi to Khowai Hospital. Unfortunately, the attending physician declared the girl "dead on arrival."
During initial inquiries, Asish's father, Ashu Debnath, provided crucial context to the police. He stated that his son had been suffering from mental health issues for some time. The condition reportedly worsened over the last few months after Asish's wife deserted the family, leaving behind their young daughter. The father claimed Asish was undergoing treatment for his mental illness.
The local community in Sonatala village is in a state of deep shock and mourning following this heartbreaking event. The Khowai district police are actively investigating the case and conducting a thorough search to apprehend Asish Debnath, who is currently absconding.
