Trichy Fire Department Empowers Private Security Guards with Emergency Response Training
In a proactive move to enhance public safety, the District Fire and Rescue Services Department in Trichy organized a comprehensive sensitization program on Monday. This initiative was specifically designed to equip private security guards with the skills necessary to respond effectively to emergency situations, including fire accidents and electrical short-circuits in private establishments.
Hands-On Training Across All Fire Stations
A key component of the program was a practical demonstration exercise involving fire safety equipment, which was conducted simultaneously at all 11 fire service stations across the district. The primary objective was to educate private security guards on how to douse various types of fire accidents, with a particular focus on handling LPG cylinder fires, which are common in residential and commercial settings.
Theoretical and Practical Insights
District Fire Officer S Vinoth provided detailed insights into the program. "Fire hazards in different properties such as hospitals and industries were explained theoretically to ensure a thorough understanding," he stated. Approximately 200 security guards participated in the event, including representatives from rural areas, highlighting the department's commitment to widespread safety awareness.
Participants received certificates upon successful completion of the workshop, recognizing their newly acquired skills. The training covered various types of fires and the appropriate methods for extinguishing them using dedicated fire extinguishers. For instance, foam extinguishers were demonstrated as effective tools for dousing fires caused by flammable liquids.
Role of Security Guards as First Responders
Emphasizing the critical role of private security guards as first responders in private properties, the program included instructions on how to rescue occupants during emergency situations. Guards were trained on evacuation procedures and providing initial assistance to those in distress, ensuring a swift and organized response.
To reinforce the learning, booklets on fire accidents, prevention strategies, safety measures, and supporting people in distress were distributed to all attendees. These resources serve as handy references for ongoing safety practices.
Preventing Fire Spread and Future Plans
The guards were also sensitized on the proper operation and application of fire extinguishers to prevent flames from spreading to nearby areas, a crucial skill in minimizing property damage and saving lives. Looking ahead, the department announced that security guards in apartments will be targeted in the next phase of sensitization, expanding the reach of this vital safety initiative.
This program underscores the Trichy Fire Department's dedication to community safety through collaborative training, empowering private security personnel to act confidently and effectively in emergencies.
