Gonda-Asansol Express Collides with Truck in Jharkhand, Disrupting Rail Services
Rail services on the crucial Jasidih-Asansol main line in Jharkhand faced significant disruption for approximately two hours on Thursday morning following a collision between the Gonda-Asansol Express and a truck near the Nawadih railway crossing in Deoghar district, according to railway officials.
No Casualties Reported, Minor Injuries to Bikers
Shankar Shailesh, the station manager at Jasidih, confirmed that there were no casualties or serious injuries resulting from the incident. However, two bikers in the vicinity sustained minor injuries when the truck was pushed into them following the impact of the collision.
Heavy Traffic and Signal Issues Cited as Contributing Factors
The Asansol Railway Division indicated that heavy traffic near the level crossing played a role in the accident. The truck was attempting to cross the railway tracks when the train, which was entering the down line in the absence of a proper signal, struck it. This sequence of events highlights potential safety concerns at the crossing.
Videos circulating on social media platforms vividly capture the moment of impact, showing the train hitting the truck and the subsequent dragging of the vehicle into nearby traffic, underscoring the chaotic scene.
Rail Traffic Restored, Investigation Committee Formed
An Eastern Railway spokesperson reported that the damaged engine has been successfully removed from the site. Rail traffic returned to normal after around two hours, minimizing prolonged disruption to commuters and freight services.
In response to the collision, authorities have formed a four-member committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and determine responsibility. Railway officials have emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found negligent, reinforcing a commitment to safety protocols.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced at unmanned or busy railway crossings and the importance of adherence to traffic rules and signal systems to prevent such accidents in the future.
