A wave of burglaries has struck Tiruttani, creating widespread panic among residents after unidentified miscreants targeted multiple locked houses in a coordinated theft operation on Monday night. The incident, which occurred in Thomur village within the Tiruvallur district, saw thieves make off with substantial amounts of gold jewellery, cash, and approximately 6 kilograms of silver articles.

Details of the Targeted Homes

According to police reports, the affected residents—including Ramesh, Shanmugam, Ezhumalai, and Viji—had securely locked their homes before departing for a temple visit in Tiruvallur. Exploiting their absence, the burglars forcibly broke open the locks late at night, gaining entry to loot valuables. In total, the thefts involved around 83 sovereigns of gold jewellery, several kilos of silver items, and nearly 3 lakh rupees in cash.

  • Viji, also known as Deva, suffered losses of gold jewellery, silver items, and money from his property.

The burglars also attempted to break into another house belonging to a daily wage worker but found no valuables to steal, highlighting the random yet targeted nature of the spree.

The affected residents promptly lodged a formal complaint with the Kanakamma Chatram police station, triggering an immediate response. Police personnel rushed to the scene to secure the area and initiate a thorough investigation. To aid in the probe, fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were deployed to gather forensic evidence and track potential leads.

Authorities are currently analyzing the crime scenes for clues that could identify the perpetrators, with a focus on the modus operandi used in the break-ins.
