Nedumbassery: 18-Year-Old Plumber Found Dead with Neck Cut, Police Probe On
Thrissur Youth Dies in Nedumbassery; Police Probe Unnatural Death

Police in Nedumbassery have launched a detailed investigation into the tragic and unnatural death of an 18-year-old youth, who was found with a fatal neck injury at a residential property. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Nedumbassery Incident

The deceased has been identified as Abhinav, a resident of Puthur in Thrissur. He was reportedly at the house in Nedumbassery to carry out plumbing work. The grim discovery was made when fellow workers returned to the site after taking a tea break. They found Abhinav with a severe cut on his neck, inflicted by a mechanised cutter present at the location.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital without delay, medical professionals could not save his life. The Nedumbassery police have officially registered a case of unnatural death and are actively working to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragedy.

Police Investigation: Suicide or Accident?

A senior police officer involved in the probe provided crucial insights into the ongoing investigation. "We are investigating the possibilities of suicide, accidental death and murder," the officer stated. However, he added a significant detail: "It is unlikely to be a murder case since there was no evidence indicating the presence of another person when the youth sustained the injury. The main possibilities under consideration are suicide or accidental death."

The focus of the inquiry is thus centered on understanding whether the fatal injury was self-inflicted or occurred due to a dreadful mishap while handling the equipment. Following a mandatory post-mortem examination conducted on Friday, Abhinav's body was handed over to his grieving relatives.

Separate Case: Habitual Offender Detained Under Kaapa

In an unrelated law enforcement action, the Ernakulam Rural Police detained a 36-year-old man under the stringent Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, commonly known as Kaapa. The individual, identified as Libin Benny from Kappumkara, Muvattupuzha, is a documented habitual offender.

The detention order was issued by District Collector Priyanka G, based on a comprehensive report submitted by Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief M Hemalatha. Police records indicate that Libin Benny has been involved in a slew of criminal cases across multiple jurisdictions.

His criminal history includes charges of:

  • Murder
  • Robbery
  • Theft
  • Trespassing

These cases are spread across the police station limits of Koothattukulam, Kuruppampady, Kunnathunad, Kulamavu, and Kattappana. Notably, he was the prime accused in a murder case reported at Airapuram in November 2024. After securing bail in a separate case related to stealing a scooter from Koothattukulam, he went into hiding. He was subsequently tracked down and arrested by a special police squad.
