Three Men Apprehended in West Delhi Following Stolen SUV Incident
Police in West Delhi have arrested three individuals after a stolen sports utility vehicle attempted to run over a police team. The incident resulted in injuries to two officers. Authorities took the accused into custody during the late hours of January 15 and 16.
Dramatic Chase and Arrest Details
Deputy Commissioner of Police Darade Sharad Bhaskar provided details about the arrest. The Anti Auto Theft Squad intercepted a white Kia Seltos near the Vivek Vihar ITI underpass. Officers discovered the SUV carried a fake number plate.
Police verified the vehicle as stolen from Mukherjee Nagar in Northwest Delhi on September 2, 2025. The accused used the SUV with false plates to avoid detection by law enforcement.
Violent Confrontation with Police
During the interception, the driver made a deliberate attempt to run over the police team. DCP Bhaskar stated that the driver rammed the vehicle into officers. This action caused injuries to Head Constable Devender and Constable Manish.
The injured personnel received medical treatment at GTB Hospital. Their condition remains stable according to police reports.
Sequence of Events During Chase
CCTV footage captured the dramatic sequence of events. The stolen Seltos first sped past a police vehicle. It then crashed into a tow-truck that was blocking the road.
The vehicle reversed and struck the pursuing police SUV, a white Bolero. When officers exited their vehicle and surrounded the Seltos, the driver attempted to escape by moving toward them.
The SUV eventually hit a divider. Police officers then broke open the window panes to extract the accused from the vehicle.
Accused Identified and Background
Police identified the three arrested individuals as residents of Uttar Pradesh. Mashrur, aged 56, comes from Sultanpur. Asif, aged 42, hails from Meerut. Aqeel, aged 40, is from Muzaffarnagar.
Investigations reveal the accused belong to a gang involved in stealing four-wheelers across multiple states. They have connections to several vehicle theft cases involving various models.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
Authorities have registered a First Information Report at the Vivek Vihar police station. The investigation continues to uncover further details about the gang's activities.
Police confirmed the stolen SUV was involved in multiple incidents of vehicle theft. These include thefts of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Fortuner models.
The accused also rammed the SUV into public vehicles during the incident. No civilian injuries have been reported from these collisions.
