A devastating road accident on the Trichy Main Road in Namakkal claimed three lives and left two others with serious injuries on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on a railway bridge, involving a pick-up van, a truck, and a two-wheeler, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to the Namakkal town police, the accident took place around 6am. A pick-up van, while attempting to overtake a two-wheeler on the railway bridge, collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused the pick-up van to subsequently hit the two-wheeler, resulting in immediate fatalities and injuries.

Victims Identified in the Namakkal Mishap

The deceased have been identified as Karthik, 25, and Senathipathi, 25, both residents of Indira Jayanagar in Namakkal, who were travelling on the two-wheeler. The third victim was Hussain Syedwasim, 30, from Karnataka, who was driving the pick-up van. Tragically, all three died on the spot.

The injured include Akash, 24, a friend of Karthik and Senathipathi who was also on the two-wheeler, and Rajesh, 32, the truck driver. Both were admitted to the Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Traffic Disruption and Vehicle Removal

The accident caused traffic to be disrupted for approximately an hour on the railway bridge, a key route in the region. Authorities had to use a crane to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene to restore normal traffic flow.

Police Investigation and Case Registration

The Namakkal town police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. A police officer provided additional context, stating, "The oil-laden truck was going to Trichy from Namakkal while the pick-up van was going to Bengaluru from Trichy carrying empty sacks." This detail sheds light on the vehicles' routes and cargo at the time of the accident.

This tragic event underscores the critical importance of road safety, especially on narrow or congested structures like railway bridges. The local community is mourning the loss, and authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution to prevent such accidents in the future.
