Three men have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a 30-year-old Dalit man whose throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon in Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district earlier this week, police said on Saturday.
Incident Details
The victim, Anand Kumar, a resident of Kolki village, was returning home on June 18 when he was allegedly attacked and killed near Babhni Bazaar, police said. The murder sparked tension in the Bakhira area, with the victim's family and local residents staging protests and blocking roads, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Legal Action
Police registered an FIR against three named accused and one unidentified person under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Meena said the three accused: Nasir, Nirhu and Zaigam, all residents of the Bakhira police station area, were arrested from a garden in Badhya village under the Bakhira police station limits on Saturday.
Arrest and Custody
The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, the SP said. Meena added that the law and order situation in the area remained under control and further investigation into the case was underway.
