Thieves Target Police Constable's Residence in Lucknow, Escape with Valuables
In a bold nighttime burglary, thieves broke into the house of a woman police constable in Lucknow's Balaji Vihar Colony. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, close to the Bakshi Ka Talab police station. The criminals made off with gold jewellery, cash, and various household goods worth lakhs of rupees.
Family Absence Facilitates the Crime
The house owner, Savita Singh, serves at the Balrampur Police Lines. Her husband, Veerpal Singh Tomar, explained that the house was empty during the burglary. He had left for Balrampur on Wednesday afternoon to visit his wife and children. This absence provided the thieves with an opportunity to strike without interruption.
Discovery and Police Response
The crime came to light on Thursday morning when a contractor named Umesh Mishra noticed signs of the burglary. Mishra immediately alerted the family and also called Dial 112. This prompt action led to a preliminary police inspection before the family could return home.
Upon arriving, Tomar found his house thoroughly ransacked. The thieves had broken open a wooden almirah to steal silver anklets, gold earrings, a gold nose pin, and Rs 3,500 in cash. They also took an LED television from the premises.
Extensive Looting of Valuables
The burglars did not stop there. They forcefully opened a steel almirah as well. From this, they looted a gold necklace, a pair of gold earrings, a gold chain, four gold rings, and Rs 50,000 in cash. The miscreants further broke into trunks and a basement compartment. They stole clothes and ceremonial brass utensils during their spree.
Police Investigation and Local Concerns
The Bakshi Ka Talab police have initiated a forensic investigation into the case. They are examining evidence to identify and apprehend the culprits. Meanwhile, local residents expressed concern over a recent pattern of thefts in the area. They mentioned that three shops near a highway police outpost were also targeted recently by shutter-breaking thieves.
This incident highlights security challenges even in colonies located near police stations. The theft from a police constable's home adds a layer of irony and raises questions about safety measures in residential areas.
