In a significant narcotics crackdown, Mumbra police have successfully dismantled a major interstate drug syndicate. The operation resulted in the seizure of over 13 kilograms of Mephedrone, commonly known as MD. The drugs have an estimated street value of Rs 27.2 crore. Police officials described this as the largest operation ever conducted by the Mumbra police station's NDPS squad.
Initial Arrest Leads to Major Breakthrough
Police laid a trap near Bilal Hospital in Mumbra. They arrested a local resident named Basu Umarudin Sayyed. Sayyed was found in possession of 23.5 grams of Mephedrone. Authorities registered a case against him under the NDPS Act.
During interrogation, Sayyed provided crucial information. He revealed the existence of a larger supply chain operating across state lines. Sayyed informed police that two suppliers were traveling from Madhya Pradesh to deliver a consignment.
Interception of Interstate Suppliers
Acting on this tip, police intercepted the two suppliers. They arrested Ramsingh Amarsingh Gujjar and Kailas Shambhulalji Balai. Both men are residents of Madhya Pradesh. From their possession, police recovered 3.5 kilograms of Mephedrone. This quantity alone is valued at approximately Rs 7.3 crore.
Expanded Investigation Uncovers Massive Haul
Further investigations led police teams to Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh. There, authorities apprehended two more accused individuals. Police arrested Manohar Lal Ranglal Gujjar and another suspect identified as Raju.
From these individuals, police seized a massive haul of 9.9 kilograms of Mephedrone. This portion of the seizure carries an estimated value of Rs 19.9 crore. The total seizure from all operations amounts to over 13 kilograms of the illegal substance.
Criminal Background of Accused
The arrested individuals have a history of criminal activities. Some face previous charges including murder. Others have violations under the Arms Act on their records. This background highlights the dangerous nature of the syndicate police have disrupted.
The successful operation demonstrates effective police work across state boundaries. It represents a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Authorities continue their investigations to identify any remaining links in the supply chain.
