Tent operator dies in West Champaran hit-and-run accident

A tragic hit-and-run accident on a national highway in Bihar's West Champaran district has claimed the life of a tent operator and left his friend seriously injured. The incident has cast a shadow over a family already preparing for a daughter's wedding.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident occurred late on Sunday night near Badgaon village under the Bagaha Nagar police station area. According to police reports, an unidentified vehicle struck a motorcycle, causing both riders to suffer severe injuries. The victims were rushed to the sub-divisional hospital with the help of local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Raju Chaudhary, a 40-year-old resident of Binwalia village in the Semra police station area. His friend, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Family's Heartbreak and Police Investigation

The victim's son, Dhiraj Kumar, shared the family's profound grief. "My father was returning from Bettiah on a bike with his friend when the accident took place," he said. "Police, with the help of local residents, rushed him to the sub-divisional hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. My sister’s wedding is slated to be held after two months; we are devastated."

Town Station House Officer (SHO) Shailesh Kumar stated that information about the accident on NH-747 was received late Sunday evening. A police team responding to the 'Dial 112' emergency service immediately reached the site and facilitated the transfer of the injured to the hospital. Raju Chaudhary succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday.

Search for the Absconding Driver

Following the postmortem, the body was handed over to the grieving family. SHO Shailesh Kumar confirmed that an active investigation is underway to apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. "CCTV cameras will be examined to locate the vehicle that hit the bike and the driver will be arrested soon," he asserted.

The police are relying on footage from cameras in the vicinity of the accident site on the busy national highway to identify the offending vehicle, which fled the scene after the collision.
