Police in Telangana are actively investigating a shocking case of mass animal killings. Over the past ten days, at least 500 stray dogs have been killed using lethal injections across three districts of the state. The affected areas include Kamareddy, Hanamakonda, and Jagtial.
Professional Dog Killers Hired for Barbarous Acts
Authorities describe these killings as barbarous acts carried out by professional dog killers. Police sources indicate that newly elected village sarpanches allegedly hired these professionals. The motive appears linked to promises made to voters before the gram panchayat elections held in December last year.
Multiple Cases Registered Across Districts
Police in all three districts have registered formal cases based on complaints from animal rights activists. So far, cases have been filed against seventeen individuals. At least seven of those named are sarpanches from various villages.
Sources familiar with the investigation reveal troubling details. The sarpanches reportedly assured their electorate they would eliminate stray dogs from villages. They also promised to address monkey menace problems once elected to their positions.
Kamareddy District Investigation Details
Police from Machareddy village provided specific information about the Kamareddy district incidents. More than two hundred dogs were allegedly killed in various villages over the past week. Officers have named eight persons in their investigation.
The list includes seven sarpanches from different villages. These villages are Bhavanipet, Palwancha, Faridpet, Wadi, and Bandarameshwarapally. Two individuals from Hanamakonda district are also named. Additionally, police identified Kishore Pandey, a professional dog killer allegedly hired from neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
Formal Complaint and Evidence Collection
The First Information Report was registered on January 12 based on a specific complaint. Adulapuram Goutham, who serves as animal cruelty prevention manager for the Stray Animal Foundation of India, filed the complaint. He reported finding dog carcasses dumped near Peddacheruvu in Bhavanipet village.
Goutham later confirmed similar incidents occurred in Palwancha and Faridpet villages. His complaint triggered the formal police investigation into these disturbing events.
Police Investigation Progress
A senior police officer from Machareddy provided updates on the investigation. We suspect that the sarpanches of Bhavanipet, Palwancha and Faridpet were involved in the killing of 244 dogs, the officer stated. Police have conducted post-mortem examinations of buried carcasses already.
Forensic samples have been sent to laboratories for detailed analysis. The officer confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine all facts surrounding these killings.
Villager Testimonies Emerge
A villager from Nalgonda spoke about similar incidents under condition of anonymity. About 150 dogs were killed in our village by administering injections about 15 days ago, the villager revealed. According to this testimony, the newly elected sarpanch ordered the killings.
The villager explained the reasoning behind these actions. There had been numerous dog-bite cases reported in the village. Additionally, dogs chasing people on motorcycles had caused injuries, creating safety concerns among residents.
Additional District Incidents
In Hanamakonda district, police have booked nine people for separate incidents. Approximately three hundred dogs were allegedly killed between January 6 and January 8 in this district. Meanwhile, in Jagtial district, about thirty dogs were killed last month according to police records.
The investigation continues as police gather more evidence and testimonies. Animal rights organizations are monitoring the case closely while demanding strict action against those responsible for these mass killings.
