Teenager Approaches Police After Father's Seventh Marriage Bid Leads to Assault in Azamgarh
A 17-year-old boy in Azamgarh district has sought intervention from the Ahraula police after his partially paralysed father physically assaulted him for opposing his bid to marry for the seventh time at the age of 55. The incident has brought to light a complex family situation involving multiple marriages, property disputes, and financial pressures.
Father Admits to Six Previous Marriages Amidst Family Turmoil
When questioned by authorities, the father, identified as Amarjeet Maurya, admitted that he has already been married six times. According to relatives, his first wife passed away shortly after their wedding, while the second wife died after giving birth to three daughters. The remaining four wives, including the mother of the minor son involved in the current complaint, chose separation after Amarjeet refused to transfer his land to them.
The teenage son revealed that his father forced him to work as a laborer to clear debts incurred by mortgaging parental land. This financial burden was reportedly taken on to fulfill Amarjeet's desire to marry additional women after the boy's mother left the family for another man.
Property Concerns Trigger Opposition and Violence
The minor explained his opposition to his father's seventh marriage attempt, stating, "I became aware that my father wanted to marry for the seventh time. I opposed this move because some neighbors were eyeing my father's 3.5 bigha land, and they were misleading him to borrow more money from them. I wanted to stop him from marrying another woman and taking dues to save the same land. But when I reached home to talk to my father, he assaulted me."
This confrontation led to physical violence, prompting the teenager to seek police protection and intervention in what appears to be both a family and property dispute.
Police Investigation Underway as Property Dispute Emerges
Upon receiving the complaint, authorities at the Ahraula police station were directed to investigate the matter thoroughly. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural) Chirag Jain confirmed that initial investigations have revealed a significant property dispute between the father and son.
"When this boy turned up with his complaint, the Ahraula police station in-charge was asked to probe the matter," stated ASP Jain. "Initial investigation revealed a property dispute between the father and son. However, the course of action will be decided once the probe is completed."
The police are currently examining all aspects of the case, including the assault allegations, the property dispute, and the circumstances surrounding Amarjeet Maurya's multiple marriages. The investigation aims to determine appropriate legal action based on the findings.
