A 16-year-old helper was crushed to death when a load of gravel fell on him during unloading from a dumper at a construction site in Sector 113, Gurugram. The incident occurred late on Thursday night, July 3, and was captured on CCTV cameras.
Details of the Incident
The driver of the dumper asked Priyanshu Maurya, the helper, to open the tailgate at the rear of the vehicle. As soon as he complied, the driver engaged the hydraulic lift to begin unloading the gravel. The teenager lost his balance, and a large quantity of gravel fell onto his legs. He shouted for help, but the driver did not hear him due to the engine noise and continued unloading the entire load. Within moments, Priyanshu was completely buried under the pile of gravel.
The driver only realised what had happened when he could not find the helper. He checked the CCTV footage, which showed the teenager being buried. Workers immediately removed the gravel and pulled him out, but it was too late. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Victim Identification and Legal Action
The deceased was identified as Priyanshu Maurya (16), a native of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. His family currently lives in Prempur Losani in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district. According to the police, the dumper arrived at the construction site at around 1 am on July 3. Based on a complaint lodged by his father, Durga Prasad Maurya, the Bajghera police registered an FIR against the dumper driver. The police impounded the dumper and are investigating the case.
“The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and the footage confirmed that Priyanshu had been buried under the gravel,” said a police official. After the post-mortem examination, the police handed over the body to the family.
