Tragic Accident in Tirupur: Teenager Dies After Falling into Dry Well
A 17-year-old schoolgirl lost her life after accidentally falling into a 100-foot-deep dry well in Tirupur on Saturday night. The incident occurred when she attempted to prevent her father from jumping into the well following a family dispute.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as R Rithika, daughter of Ravichandran (45) and Malathiselvi (40), residents of Koorumbapalayam Settikadu Thottam. She was a Class XII student at a government-aided school in Avinashi.
Sequence of Events
According to police, Ravichandran, who had abstained from alcohol for the past seven years, returned home in an intoxicated state on Saturday night. This led to an argument between the couple, with Malathiselvi reprimanding her husband for drinking again. Upset by the confrontation, Ravichandran threatened to end his life by jumping into a nearby well and left the house.
Malathiselvi and Rithika followed him to bring him back. A police officer from Sevur station explained, 'Since it was dark, Rithika lost her footing when she lunged forward to grab her father, and fell into the well.'
Rescue Efforts
Her mother alerted the Avinashi fire and rescue services and the Sevur police. However, upon arrival, they found the girl dead and recovered her body.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
