Teacher assaults colleague after marriage proposal rejected in Madhepura

A shocking incident of alleged assault unfolded inside a school classroom in Bihar's Madhepura district on Saturday, leading to the arrest of a teacher. The accused, a schoolteacher, is alleged to have physically attacked a female colleague after she firmly rejected his persistent marriage proposals.

Details of the Madhepura Classroom Assault

The incident took place at a school located in Pipra-Karauti village under the Uda-Kishunganj block. The accused, identified as Shambhu Kumar, a resident of Balam-Gadhiya village under the Madhepura town police station, had reportedly been harassing the woman for some time, pressuring her to marry him. Police stated that his harassment included visiting her rented accommodation on multiple occasions under false pretexts like paperwork.

Despite the victim reportedly complaining about this persistent harassment to the school headmaster earlier, no concrete action was taken to address the situation. This inaction preceded the violent escalation on Saturday.

Rejection Triggers Violent Attack

The situation reached a critical point when the woman clearly and firmly rejected Shambhu Kumar's marriage proposal. Enraged by the rejection, the accused teacher allegedly lost his temper and assaulted her inside her own classroom. The attack left the female teacher injured, requiring immediate medical attention.

The injured teacher was admitted to a hospital for treatment following the assault. Authorities were alerted, prompting a swift response from senior police officials.

Swift Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

Acting on the information, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Avinash Kumar visited the spot to review the situation firsthand. He directed subordinate officers to take appropriate and immediate action.

As a result, police arrested the accused teacher, Shambhu Kumar, on the same day, Saturday. Uda-Kishunganj Station House Officer (SHO) Sudhakar Kumar confirmed the arrest and stated that a further investigation into the matter is currently underway. The case highlights serious concerns about workplace safety and the mechanisms for addressing harassment within educational institutions.
