SUV Driver Allegedly Assaults PRTC Bus Conductor in Bathinda, Cash Bag Reportedly Snatched
In a disturbing incident in Bathinda, a man driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) is accused of brutally assaulting the conductor of a Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus at the Dala village bus stand. The assault occurred on Monday along the Moga-Barnala highway, resulting in the conductor, Jagsir Singh, being admitted to Moga civil hospital with significant injuries.
Details of the Violent Confrontation
According to sources, the PRTC bus was en route from Moga to Sangrur when it stopped at the Dala village bus stand. At this point, the accused, later identified as Basant Singh, arrived in his SUV to drop off some relatives. An altercation ensued, leading Basant Singh to allegedly thrash the conductor, Jagsir Singh. The conductor has claimed that during the assault, Basant Singh also snatched his cash bag, though police have stated this detail is yet to be confirmed through official investigation.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
Mehna police station SHO Inspector Gurwinder Singh Bhullar reported that they received information about the assault on Jagsir Singh. The initial investigation suggests that the incident was triggered when one of Basant Singh's relatives slipped while boarding the bus, which apparently infuriated him, leading to the violent outburst. The police are currently awaiting the recording of the injured conductor's statement regarding the alleged snatching of the cash bag to proceed with appropriate legal action.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings and Community Impact
The case has drawn attention to safety concerns for public transport workers in the region. Authorities have emphasized that once the conductor's statement is formally recorded, they will take all necessary steps as per the law. This incident underscores the need for heightened security measures at bus stands and along highways to prevent such assaults in the future.
