Surat Diamond Worker Survives Shooting in Mistaken Identity Attack

A young diamond worker in Surat survived a terrifying shooting and assault on Friday evening. The incident occurred in the Godadara area of the city. A group of six people targeted him due to mistaken identity.

Violent Confrontation Escalates Quickly

The victim, Chirag Godakiya, is twenty-four years old. He works in the diamond industry. Godakiya went to Priyanka Society-5 around 8 pm to pick up his two brothers-in-law. He stood on the road with his relatives when the attack happened.

Six youths were sitting outside their society nearby. They included Nikhil Rathod, Vikas Vankhede, Ajay Seje, Sahil Salunke, Shiv Dodhre, and a minor. Police said these accused individuals had been in a quarrel with another group just a day earlier during Uttarayan celebrations.

The group mistakenly believed Godakiya and his relatives had come to attack Shiv Dodhre and the minor. They confronted them and started questioning who sent them to kill the duo. The situation turned violent very quickly.

Shooting and Assault Follow Confrontation

Godakiya and his relatives were completely unaware of the previous dispute. They were caught off guard by the sudden attack. They retaliated during the scuffle that followed.

During the clash, the minor allegedly pulled out a country-made revolver. He shot Godakiya in the stomach. Even after the shooting, the accused continued beating him before fleeing the scene.

Godakiya sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was rushed to a private hospital in Katargam. Doctors successfully removed the bullet from his body. His condition is now reported as stable.

Police Action and Criminal Backgrounds

Godadara police have taken swift action in this case. They have arrested five of the six accused individuals. The minor who allegedly fired the shot remains at large as of now.

Police recovered the country-made revolver used in the crime. Their records reveal interesting details about some of the accused.

Vikas Vankhede has four prior cases against him. These include robbery charges. Nikhil Rathod and Shiv Dodhre were previously booked in murder cases. This information comes from official police records.

The investigation continues as police search for the minor suspect. The case highlights the dangers of mistaken identity and quick escalation of conflicts in urban areas.
