Surat Teacher Files Police Complaint Over Alleged Theft by Mumbai Friend
A teacher from the Rander area of Surat has lodged a formal police complaint, accusing a woman friend from Mumbai of stealing valuable gold jewellery from her residence. The incident, which occurred on April 11, has prompted an investigation by the Rander police as the alleged theft involves items worth approximately Rs 91,000.
Details of the Alleged Theft Incident
According to the complaint, the victim, Upasana Sequeira, 35, who conducts tuition classes from her home in Rander, hosted her friend Heay Vyas, 24, from Mumbai on April 11. Vyas stayed at the Sequeira household for a day during her visit.
Early in the morning, around 6:15 AM, when Sequeira's husband Melvin returned from his night-duty job at a private company, the couple briefly stepped out of their home. They left to dispose of garbage and purchase coconut water, leaving Vyas alone in the house during this time.
Upon their return, Vyas was prepared to depart for Mumbai. Melvin subsequently dropped her off at the railway station using his motorcycle. Later that same evening, when Sequeira opened her cupboard, she discovered that several pieces of jewellery were missing.
Missing Jewellery and Police Action
The stolen items reportedly include four gold rings, a gold bracelet, and a gold pendant, with a total estimated value of Rs 91,000. Sequeira immediately attempted to contact Vyas regarding the missing jewellery but allegedly did not receive a satisfactory explanation or response.
As no other individuals had visited the home on that day, Sequeira concluded that Vyas was responsible for the theft. She subsequently approached the Rander police station and filed an official complaint, detailing the events and the missing items.
The Rander police have confirmed that they have initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and gathering evidence to proceed with the case.
